I have to imagine this is way harder than doing it in person.

This sounds terrifying. I worked at a plant that has many forklifts, but many I mean 100+ running around at all times. That was not something I wanted to get hit by, making eye contact with the driver to make sure they see you is a pretty important part of forklift safety.

Yeah that’s like #1 - eye contact, and a head check or hand wave

A VR headset would make that better.
Then I would probably question reality when I go home.

Seems pretty Oppo to me.

A Robocop going on a killing spree ? No a RoboBob going on a stabbing spree.

Uh... no thanks. Sounds like imminent death for any pedestrians.

Linde forklifts can be had with a VW VR6, so yes.

What I want to know is why one guy gets six screens, while the other gets one.

Who picks up the dropped loads?
![]() 10/21/2020 at 09:57 |

Well everyone else would be in more danger, but this would offer Klaus significant protection against decapitation.

It’s hard enough to drive them in person! Like driving one of those race-car shopping carts at Lowes.

Wouldn’t a robot be better? And what is gained by having these guys WFH or wherever?

Speaking of forklifts.

Yeah, I work in a manufacturing facility and there’s no way in hell, I’d get out on the floor with those. Perhaps in a warehouse situation where it’s just picking/pulling stock to get put on a conveyor or something but definitely NOT where humans are interacting.
![]() 10/21/2020 at 10:30 |

Coupled with safety, I don’t see any advantage to this system.

Minor injuries but that's kinda hard to believe.

Sure. House these guys in the same warehouse as Predator and Reaper drone operators. Hell, I bet this job is probably the harder of the two. It can be where the military guys graduate to.

So, does this mean a forklift will be a build option on Grand Theft Auto, or whatever the gamers are flogging these days?

Forklifts= Very Oppo. If it has a steering wheel, and will move you from point a- point whatever, and could feasibly be raced, OPPO. It doesn’t even need a motor, gravity is an ok power source.....

I wonder how remote hi-lo drivers would have handled the situation I just had to assist with.
Hi-lo driver was stacking finished parts in a marketplace and got the top rack (I think 8 racks high) wedged on the horizontal bracing of the outer wall. The weight lifted the hi-lo off it’s back wheels.
We had to have another driver come in from the side and un-wedge the top rack and then steady everything to safely stack it all.
Not sure a remote guy could have seen what someone there in person could see.

Probably not well, this is one of those jobs that shouldn’t be done remotely . I can understand a long haul truck being driven remotely , but a forklift? See no upside.

We had something similar happen at the plant I worked at. It was the guy’s third incident. Fortunately, he only took down two rack sections. Still, it was 12 tons of material falling down on his head. This was the event that finally got the foreman’s nephew fired.

Slow car fast with rear steering and front impalers- yeah, they’re Oppo.
I had a stint as a fork lift driver in my youth. Learning how to slide one was an essential skill for rapid truck loading. The procedure was simple - drop the load in the trailer, slam it into reverse with full throttle, raise the forks while careening full speed in reverse, hit the dock ramp, cut full left while slamming it into forward, stomp the gas as the front end slides around, as it finally gets grip and starts rolling forward drop and tilt the forks so you can pick up the next pallet.
Fun.

Remote OTR drivers? Shi t...I wouldn’t want that either.

Lol I bet.
Ive seen a few racks fall in my day.
Although It's been awhile since we put these in.
